PITTSBURGH, Pa. (September 23, 2022) – Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh (Habitat Pittsburgh) is one of more than 230 Habitat for Humanity affiliates awarded a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation as part of its nationwide initiative to help low to moderate income families build and improve their homes across the U.S.
Habitat Pittsburgh received a $30,000 grant to help build two new homes in the Larimer Neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Local Wells Fargo employees joined Habitat Pittsburgh on one of their construction sites to volunteer for a day. Volunteers assisted Habitat Pittsburgh’s Construction Team in finishing the homes by painting and installing cabinetry.
At least one in eight Pennsylvania households spend over half of their income on housing and the number of Pittsburgh families who are struggling to afford rent is on the rise. Habitat Pittsburgh is working to help increase the Black Homeownership rate by building in historic urban communities throughout Pittsburgh.
Dr. Howard B. Slaughter, Jr., President & CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh said, “The significance of true partnerships often leads to greater outcomes for families and is reflective of the willingness and desire of the partners to continuously serve families who want a hand up, not a hand out, which is precisely what Habitat Pittsburgh and Wells Fargo are doing.”
“Habitat for Humanity and Wells Fargo have collaborated for nearly thirty years, sharing a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live,” said Paralee Knight, Wells Fargo Vice President of Community Relations. “We’re thrilled to create local impact with Habitat Pittsburgh by utilizing both our financial and volunteer resources to create more quality affordable houses for families in the Keystone State.”
This funding is part of a $7.75 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International through the Wells Fargo Builds program to support the construction, renovation and repairing of more than 350 affordable homes across the U.S. The volunteer day was sponsored by Wells Fargo as a part of its Welcome Home Campaign, which engages employee volunteers in housing affordability community events.
